Maktub (Part II)

Maktub - It is written; fate or destiny.

The concept of Maktub is something I've written about when I first started my blog. It was introduced to me in The Alchemist, and I saw it written in front of me when I first moved to Denver. The word has popped up sporadically in my time here in Denver, and it's something that I've become hyper-aware of (especially when I'm writing and photographing). I felt this overwhelming push to keep consistent with my writing, and learning with every opportunity to shoot-- whether it was for Darwin, SHEA, or on adventures.

I wasn't entirely sure where my writing and photography would take me, but I kept my eyes open while on my journey towards learning more. The combo of the two energizes me. Even the "tedious" task of taking hours to edit ignites my inner fire. I watch YouTube videos from some of my favorite photographers on how they edit, look for different styles on instagram, and explore my own style to ever-evolve it and improve. A couple weeks ago, I met with a local photographer for outdoor brands and portrait-work. We were introduced through a mutual friend-- obviously I nerded out and talked cameras and lenses for 20 minutes. Then, it got down to business. He said he was looking for some help. His production company has gotten to a point where he needs assistance with filming, photos, and wanted to add this other arm of copy work that I would spearhead. I immediately got goosebumps just thinking about this opportunity. I talked about it with friends and family, and decided that it was something I couldn't pass it up.

I didn't know where my writing and photography would take me, but now I do. My blog has become my resume, and my photos a constant progression of learning, adapting, and style. It wasn't an easy decision leaving Stream, but it was the best one I could make for my next steps. As the Alchemist says, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it. I'm so excited to start this new chapter, truly pursuing my passions and my dreams. I'm forever grateful for the opportunities I've had thus far to get me to this point, and to the people that have helped me along the way.

I can't wait to share this journey with you all. If you guys are in any of the following cities, or have recommendations of places to visit while I'm there, please message me. I would love to see you guys while on the road shooting film and photos!
