Activity Week Recap

March 6, 2017

Gird your Loins because here is the full activity week recap. I was trying to decide whether or not I should split this post up into parts, or show you all how balls to the wall we went during activity week. Eh, I decided to show you how Pete and I kept going until we physically couldn't go any longer... so, one post it is. There will be a lot of pictures to show you one hell of a week.

Pete came out to celebrate my birthday out here in the DEN, and we did it in classic Oswald sibling fashion-- hike one day, ski three days, and eat a lot of hummus, guac, and french fries. Activity day usually takes place in the summer, and we've been doing it for years. Usually includes an 85 degree day in July, a little Waboba at the beach, golf with (the man, the myth, the legend) Artie O, Spikeball, and having friends around us all day. This year was a special year, not only because it is my Michael Jordan year, but also because I'm in a new location. So, obviously one day wouldn't be enough in the DEN because there are too many things to do here. Hence... the creation of activity week. A tradition we decided we'll continue every year, but maybe with a day of rest thrown in too. Maybe

Day 1: Red Rocks

Day 2: Freshies at Keystone

Pete's first experience with skiing in fresh pow and in the west in general! What an unbelievable day. We spent the day going in and out of the trees in search of fresh tracks and powder. The day was a success when we both had to call it at 2:30 because we literally couldn't go down anymore trails without being exhausted.

Day 3: Vail Powder Day

Vail in general is an absolute beast of a mountain and great to ski. We lucked out because we got fresh tracks, a gorgeous blue bird day, a slight goggle tan, and without a doubt the best ski day that both of us have ever had. We were tree huggers and snow chasers throughout the day. The best part about it was that we didn't think about where we were going. If there were lines of trees, we were in them. If we found ourselves at the face of the bowl, we crushed it. Got a little lost in the best way possible, and didn't worry about where we ended up. I think personally this was my favorite day of activity week because we both had this insane mixture of mega confidence and comfort on our skis. It was a great day to have a great day, and the only way to properly finish it out was with a basket of fries and hummus with chickpea crisps.

 Day 4: Breckenridge

Three days, three separate mountains. We ended up skiing a half day because we were so dead from skiing all day at Vail. Regardless, we found some sweet tree lines that made me eat snow and hit the upper bowls that made the day worth it. We decided that since it was such a beautiful day, we would explore Breck's town and head back to Denver to enjoy the warm weather.

There you have it folks. Activity week & birthday week 2017. It was a hell of a start of my Michael Jordan year. And, I have a feeling that this will only be the beginning of all the adventures to come. Huge shout out and thanks to my brother, Pete, for coming out and making my week so special.

Keep an eye out for Vail powder day vlog later this week.
